The scriptures praise Agnihotra as the ultimate spiritual act:
अग्निहोत्रफलावेदाः सषडङ्गपदक्रमः ।
अग्निहोत्रसमो धर्मो न भूतो न भविष्यति ।।
The ultimate fruit of the Vedas and its six auxiliary disciplines is Agnihotra. There has never been, nor will there ever be, a Dharma equal to it.
नन्दन्ति पितरः सर्वे नृत्यन्ति च पितामहाः ।
प्रपितामहाश्च गायन्ति श्रोत्रियो गृहमागतः ।।
When a Shrotriya Agnihotri enters the home, all ancestors rejoice, grandfathers dance, and great-grandfathers sing in delight.
नाग्निहोत्रात्परो धर्मो, नाग्निहोत्रात्परं तपः ।
नाग्निहोत्रात्परं दानं, नाग्निहोत्रात्परो दमः ।।
There is no Dharma, Penance, Charity, or Self-control superior to Agnihotra.
नाग्निहोत्रात्परं श्रेयो नाग्निहोत्रात्परं यशः ।
नाग्निहोत्रात्परा सिद्धि नाग्निहोत्रात्परा गतिः ।
No welfare, glory, accomplishment, or spiritual destination surpasses Agnihotra.
तद्यथा इषीकातूलं अग्नौ प्रोतं प्रदूयेत,
एवं ह अस्य सर्वे पाप्मानः प्रदूयन्ते,
य एतदेवं विद्वान् अग्निहोत्रं जुहोति ।
Just as a cotton ball is instantly consumed by fire, a properly performed Agnihotra completely burns away all the sins of the worshipper, purifying the inner consciousness.
यथेह क्षुघिता बाला मातरं पर्युपासते ।
एवं सर्वाणि भूतानि अग्निहोत्रं उपासते ।।
Just as hungry children eagerly await their mother, all living beings rely on and anticipate the Agnihotra for universal welfare.
यो दद्यात्कांचनं मेरुं पृथिवीं च ससागरां ।
तत्सायंप्रातर्होमस्य तुल्यं भवति वा न वा ।।
Donating the entire earth with its oceans, Mount Meru, and gold may or may not equal the merit of performing the morning and evening Agnihotra homa.
दर्श च पौर्णमासं च ये यजन्ति द्विजातयः ।
न तेषां पुनरावृतिः ब्रह्मलोकात्कदाचन ।।
Those who perform the Darsha and Paurnamasi yagas attain Brahmaloka and never have to return to the cycle of rebirth, achieving ultimate salvation.
The Cycle of Rituals: Every Dvija (twice-born) must systematically perform Agnihotra in the morning and evening. They must perform Darsha on Amavasya, Paurnamasi on Purnima, Navasasya when new grains arrive, and specific seasonal yagas at the end of each Ritu, Ayana, and Samvatsara, leading to longevity and prosperity.
